What is the expected JEE Main cut off for admission into top NITs?

Joint Entrance Examination Main is an exam that will be organized by National Testing Agency from 2019. It is the national level competitive exam for engineering and architecture courses. This exam is for undergraduates. To take admission in NITs and IITs, JEE Main is the exam a student should take. It is necessary for the students to have a general idea about the JEE Main Cutoff for NITs so that they can set up a goal for it.

National Institute of Technology is an autonomous public institution that is governed by National Institute of Technology Act, 2007. There are all total 31 NITs present in India and the NITs have the lowest acceptance rate for engineering students second to only IITs.

Here is the list of cut offs of top 15 NITs –

Institute name Opening rank Closing rank
National Institute of Technology, Warangal 05 29270
National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli 18 26489
National Institute of Technology, Surathkal 04 32588
National Institute of Technology, Calicut 11 29053
Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology, Allahabad 04 28453
Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, Nagpur 14 32360
SardarVallabhbhai National Institute of Technology, Surat 13 55666
National Institute of Technology, Rourkela 15 71467
National Institute of Technology, Durgapur 69 45159
Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology, Bhopal 6 27275
Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT), Jaipur 610 19042
Dr. B R Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar 2244 41493
National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra 3109 30007
National Institute of Technology, Hamirpur 920 72861
National Institute of Technology, Agartala 5884 204356
National Institute of Technology, Meghalaya 13092 89492

The above numbers are just an estimate and can change from year to year. The NITs changes their cut offs every year. The cut-offs also depend on caste basis i.e., OBC, SC, General, ST etc. have different opening and closing rank. So, the best thing a candidate can do is try their best to rank within 25000 so that they can have a variety of choices. The above ranks also vary based on different departments of engineering. As a matter of fact, based on the departments around 2000 ranks vary so you have an opportunity to choose.

As a candidate, your aim should be to score within the first 25000. NITs acceptance rate is 2 to 3 % which is extremely low and based on the reputation of NITs, it is to be expected. So, if you think you are NIT material then give JEE Main your best shot. Also, choose which engineering line you want to study beforehand as it will give you an edge and tell you exactly where you should rank as different NITs have different ranks.
