Do DIY Remedies Work for Hair Growth?

More often than not, our hair gets put through the wringer. Coloring, dying, straightening, and chemically treating (even professionally), can results in dry, damaged hair. Additionally, when your hair is in this condition, it breaks more quickly than it can grow, which may be the reason your bob never quite reaches your shoulders.

What natural methods are there to grow hair more quickly without using actual products? The fact is that there is no quick fix for boosting thickness and strength.

Do you have any doubts about the effectiveness of hair loss products?

Absolutely! If you look for a hair loss therapy on Google or at any drugstore, you’ll likely come across phrases like “miracle cure,” “magic potion,” and “stimulate hair follicles.” They all make claims that they can reduce hair loss and promote hair growth. What is real and what is phony can be difficult to distinguish.

First things first: there is no magic solution for baldness. And anybody who claims differently is lying to you. However, it can stop the hair loss before it starts. In addition, despite what you may have heard, there are just two FDA-approved therapies that have been proven to be both secure and efficient in halting male pattern baldness.So, does anything else work? Let’s take a look at some DIY remedies.

Do vitamins work?

Manycompanies are selling some sort of supplement containing vitamins and minerals. But do they actually do anything?

Zinc. Zinc is necessary for regulating skin and scalp pH, but there are no real studies to definitively show that supplementing zinc for hair loss is effective.

Magnesium. Magnesium is good for hair growth because it can regulate (and lower) the body’s levels of cortisol, the stress hormone.

Folic Acid. Also known as Vitamin B9,plays a key role in cells reproduction, and helps with repairing DNA in the cells. While it will not single handedly regrow hair, using folic acid for hair growth helps ensure proper body functions.

What about other foods?

Ginseng. Applying ginseng topically for hair growth has been used for hundreds, if not thousands of years. While it will not cause hair to regrow single-handedly, the ginsenosides contained within can trigger growth factors that may help increase the effectiveness of other solutions you’re looking at.

Peanut Butter. Some people claim that peanut butter can help with hair growth due to high content of Vitamin E and other proteins. However, this method is messy and does not have much scientific evidence.

Green Tea. Due to its high content of EGCG, which has been shown to increase tolerance of cells to DHT, it has been postulated that using green tea for hair loss is a possible remedy. However, it has also been shown that too much of this substance can actually impact your hair health negatively.

The bottom line: See your dermatologist for assistance if you’re going through significant loss or thinning. Home remedies can help improve your overall wellness, but none directly target the underlying causes of hair loss.
